Video killed the good music star
I can't believe that in order to listen to halfway decent music while driving, I had to buy an IPod and download the music I enjoy. Remember the good old days when you could turn on your radio in the car and you could find some really cool music, whether from the 60's, 70's or 80's? I just bought a new car and it came with Sirius satellite radio, so I can finally choose exactly what I want to hear from more than 150 channels, each specializing in one type of music. I fluctuate between 60's and 80's hits...
Radio is slowly dying a very painful death: I was just reading in the paper Los Angeles lost their last "country" music station, they changed it from country to hip/hop crap. As if there aren't enough stations out there playing the same ole shit, like Justin Timberlake's new hit song "Sexy Back". Have you heard this piece of shit??? What about Fergie's "London Bridge"? If I ever run into either of those fuckers, I'm going to pound their faces in with my bare fists.
Check out Billboards Top 100... #1 Justin Timberlake, #2 Fergie, #3 Danity Kane (Sean "Puffy" Comb's made-up band of no-talent-sleazy hookers) #4 The Pussycat Dolls (yet another made-up band of even-less-talent-sleazy-hookers), #5 Beyonce (just one no-talent-super-sleazy-hooker-slut). What happened to real music? Are you telling me this is really what America is listening to and purchasing? Notice that none of the above so-called "artists" play an instrument or write their music.
Maybe it's just me, maybe I'm just getting old and cranky and can't appreciate real talent. Or maybe monkeys will fly out of my ass, hell will freeze over and I'll grow a third boob smack between the other two.
Here's what I do like, some are old, some are relatively new, but it's all good music any sane person can enjoy:
The Beach Boys - their melodies and harmonies still give me goose bumps
The Beatles - need I say more? Masters....
The Police - Sting, stop screwing for two seconds and come back, we need you.
Nina Simone - a voice than can melt ice.
Ron Sexsmith - this guy is amazing, saw him in concert, made me want to cry
Turin Brakes - two brothers who play all instruments and write all music, with strange but captivating voices
Belle & Sebastian - consistently good through the years, even their brand new stuff.
Massive Attack - great music for making-out, during sex and after sex.
Radiohead - Thom Yorke is a genius.
Sergio Mendes - ultimate Brasilian music
Feist - mellow and relaxed
Neko Case - mysterious, elegant, spooky and romantic
Badly Drawn Boy - watch "About a Boy", greatest soundtrack to a movie, ever.
Justin-Britney-Christina-Fergie-Beyonce etc. can all kiss my ass.

The only thing I've ever heard of Adam Greene is the Doors Concerto (Riders on the Storm). I saw part of a live show on PBS (public televsion).
One thing I do enjoy when I'm in CH is listening to Couleur 3, at least they try to introduce the masses to some new music.
French music in general needs to be buried and never see the light of day. I do like some oldies, such as Edith Piaf and Aznavour, but the new stuff sucks ass.
Believe it or not, we do hear from one Swiss band here: Stress. They suck on so many levels, I can't even begin to explain.
Have you heard all the stuff I mentioned?
Lately I've also been really impressed with a lot of bands from Norway: the National Bank, the Whitest Boy Alive, Briskeby... At least it's not American shit-pop.
English music rules. It's amazing what good music comes from there, yet when you look at the charts, English people also like American shit. In the top 20 songs in the UK, you find Justin Timberfuck, Shakira, Nelly Furtado, Pink, Christina Aguilera and Beyonce, along with Snow Patrol, Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian. It's like there are two completely different groups of people listening to music.
I LOVE the Beastie Boys. Went to see them in concert about 12 years ago on the "Ill Communication" tour. They absolutey rocked. Also liked the Streets, though not so much the last stuff as 2004's. Other hip/hop rap bands I like: the Pharcyde, De La Soul, The Roots and Jurassic 5 (they are getting big here just because of that song they did with Dave Matthews)
Last CD's I bought: Madeleine Peyroux, Vivaldi: Concerti e Sinfonie per Archi (Venice Baroque Orchestra), Best of Etta James.
One song that makes my toes curl: "At Last", Etta James.
Band I want to fucking go away already: Fall Out Boy.
Couple of favorite songwriters: Damien Rice and Ryan Adams.
Concert I slept through: Dave Matthews Band.
Concert(s) I friggin' loved: Paul McCartney and Wings, the Cure, Harry Connick Jr. (15 years ago in a really small club), Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ron Sexsmith, and believe it or not, Coldplay and Madonna (Blond Ambition 1990) were unbelievable live.
I friggin' love Beck. All the way back from "Loser". Loved "Guero" and "Odelay". I saw the Eels in 1997 on their tour supporting "Beautiful Freak", I used to love "Novocaine for the Soul".
Did you know I was a DJ all through college? I also wrote for the college paper, reviewing bands and concerts, that's why I got to see so many bands.
A few highlights: I got to play drums with the Alarm, got to meet Crowded House, went backstage and met U2 and R.E.M., interviewed Eddie Vedder over the phone.
Since I became a mom, much less concert going... Did manage to see Coldplay again, Matisyahu, Michael Buble and Depeche Mode.
I also have an extensive collection of CD's... about 3000 and counting. (freebies from my radio days)
Let me know if there is anything you want, I can always burn it for you.
BURN A CD?
but IT'S ILLEGAL!!!
it's a CRIME!
et pourquoi in dit "burn a CD"?
Okay, then I'll "blow" you a CD...
The only two CD's I have by Canned Heat are the Best of and Canned Heat at Woodstock.... No song called "Scat", but one called "Chicken Shack" and "Shake'n Boogie"... Is it one of these two???
I just downloaded a couple of songs del "giardino armonico": Concerto In F Minor for Harpsicord and Largo from the Four Seasons. It kicks ass.
Nananana, shobedobedo, lalalalalalala, I think I can use these in my song.
Seriously, I asked my brother to write some stuff we can record while I'm there, I would like to sing a few songs and give it to my parents for Christmas... Maybe some originals and some Italian oldies, to make them cry... Any ideas? You, of course, will be participating...
Merde alors, j'avais pense a "O Sole mio", "Funiculi, Funicula" and "Tu Vuo Fa' l'Americano"...
I know about Glen, my bro told me you called him about designing the new album cover...
I was thinking Patty Pravo "Pazza Idea" and something from Luigi Tenco.
okay I'll check it tomorrow.
bon je vais me coucher
